Journey towards Ambidextrousness

In my last post almost 11 months back, I have mentioned something about being ambidextrous. The idea of using my both hands equally well lingered in my thoughts for a long time, way back in my college days. However, being Indian it’s not always the most appreciated passion that someone should possess or the mere thought of it, Poof!!!! . Our rituals and society prefers right handedness, trying to use the left hand for anything or everything even in the crisis time is considered illegal. Eyebrows raised with gossiping around, making fun, feeling disrespectful when people use left hand in response to them, like handing money on purchase, helping people stand by.

My question to you all: Isn't left hand part of your own body? What is wrong in using something that is part of your physique? Why can’t I use my own body part for my benefit? And lastly what bothers you?

Unfortunately it’s riding a donkey case in India. My family doesn’t question why I do but encourages me in my goal. I am least worried or bothered about others.

I was put against questions like Boss you should have done it when you are 4 years old! Why are you doing this? Why do you want to waste your time like this? Are you going to become Shivaji the Boss? (Rajnikanth’s movie in which he writes with both hands at the same time, what else he can’t do by the way?)
Nevertheless whatever one says, you must move on. What you like matters most and what you feel correct is what you would enjoy the most. When you enjoy what you do success comes with the least pain. But enjoying includes hard work as well.
I started to work towards my passion, last month same day and it proved right, I moved ahead quite well, I went on to Google and then started to use the online resources and also the experience of people who had achieved the same feat themselves.

I am now 26, happily married, tying this and am able to write well quickly but still right hand is the dominant. I slowly started by Tracing, increasing strength by throwing a Smiley ball (as we call here in India. It’s a soft yellow colored ball with a smiley printed in it) on the wall and then catching it with the other hand. This gave me enough strength to my left hand and also was able to use my left hand fingers well. I am doing only 2 things so far, Writing and then throwing a ball to the wall and catching it with the other hand.

The 2 things Writing and throwing the balls have helped my left handedness the most; to get the agileness in my fingers; added shoulder strength, but still a long way to go. To help my ambidextrousness I have started throwing 2 balls together on the wall and then catching them with both hands.

I would like to make my dream of being Ambidextrousness soon a reality.
